"That Power Called Love"

What gives you the strength to carry on,
When it seems like every hope is gone?
What fortifies any decision you make,
When it seems the whole world is on the take?
What gleams in their eyes while looking at you,
When your body aches and wants to be through?

How can you help all those in need,
When money is too scarce to even buy seed?
How can you transfer your passion and hope,
When your dearest friend no longer can cope?
How can you shelter those left out in the cold,
"They're all lazy bums," or so you've been told?

What do you show strangers that you really care,
As they look at you silently with an empty blank stare?
What makes you bring a cold, stray kitten home,
From a place where the danger causes it to roam?
What fills your insides with warmth and concern,
As you hold someone closely who has just gotten burned?

Where to you find a companion to care,
About those hidden troubles you won't share?
Where can you find someone way out here,
To protect you and all those things you hold dear?
Where do you seek comfort from the demons within,
That hollow your being and make you feel sin?

Why does another come to your aid,
When even the tunnel light has started to fade?
Why can you go forward into this growing mess,
If fear makes you shiver with a cold you won't confess?
Why even continue with all that's gone wrong,
When the road before us is rocky and always so long.

It's that power called love and it's yours to share.
