never never

Tap at the window
more dreams of never-never
reality or prayer
the dark man there

The light of familiar
casts shadows on his face
picking smiles or frowns
his daring astounds

Listening above her heart beat
for sounds of family threat
she opens the glass
and he softly steps past

Into the light
he turns and smiles
eyes capture for a time
the depths within her mind

Vampyre or pan
the figure stands before her
extending his hand
she takes it to understand

And they walk to the window
stare together at the dark
then from ledge to abyss
they leap and wish to miss

Like Wendy and Peter
they take the air in hands
and fly towards the stars
away from earthly scars

They soar above the view
look to each and then beyond
stars above and below
risen lasting longingly slow

Yet no land of make-believe
toys hold mere momentary joy
they flow to own dream place
a private sharing space

Then settled soft beneath the night
a fire is lit and let to ember
together they lay down side by side
and softly begin to confide

Throughout the night
of occasional touches
they talk or listen together
never resorting once to weather

Silences are shared not minded
depth in philosophy or flame-shapes
spirits and senses are at one
this time of once upon

And when dawn discolours
the perfect black and speckle
they stand and touch each
lips touch and tongues reach

Then a final look
and they take each others hand
and launch for the skies
to where her safe bed lies

She wakes to a smile
and a happy heart
and as the dream lingers far
sees the window still ajar
