The Crowd

they form as if through gravity
a mutual attraction of like to like
to form and swirl and centre upon
those of great consequence
the core contingent orchestrate
the movements of bodies and minds
conducting an agenda unrevised
and yet unknown by the crowd
a baton raised subconsciously to begin
a wave of laughter that mexican-like
sweeps around the outer circle
before halting to the next gesture
talking in clusters
but with an ear to the core
always focussing for their own namesa
and their own interests
breaking and reforming constantly
before being drawn again
as gravity exerts it's insidious pull
the terror of exclusion glues
and when discontent exerts it's self
it matters not for they reform
on opposing sides of the core
mobius like in their different sides

Yet when the core entertains it's frictions
meeting like tectonic plates
tidal waves of angst sweep
the crowd to far shores of reason
Clusters become islands
in a sea of looks and gossip
and opposing poles turn until
they meet again and attract
and when gravity re-exerts itself
as the core becomes stable once more
not all the fragments are reinvited
they remain outside

and these poor solitary islands
having once been part
look longingly at the new formed continents
and grieve for the flock of comrades
