Serendipity

Wandering aimlessly through the corridors
Opening doors to rooms in melancholic order
Finding space devoid of interest
And furniture from limbo’s border

From room to room in aimless gait
Passage assured yet passages uninviting
Safety a pre-eminence of mind
Under the dull glare of unnoticed lighting

Never reaching un-guessed other levels
Nor perceiving the needs that are owned
Not stretching for self but still selfish
Mind numb with an intellect un-honed

Downcast eyes not noticing footsteps
Nor registering the circles walked
No clever action by automaton
Of plotting routes of chalk

Bumping blankly blinking… a light
Thoughts demanded by interlopers smile
Interest sparked by sparkling wit
Magic grown now in fertile soil

Looking about at a castle of dreams
Made to my measures … mind
Walkways to the drawbridge lowered
Portcullis risen and ready to find

Out into the fields of imaginary libraries
Onto vellum pages blank waiting due
To write with the quil that stabbed me
In the blood of my thanks for you
