ECHO!
The Mother said, "Be quiet Bitch!"
"Your incessant babble quite makes me itch!
And the Lord of all can hear us near ..
and hide the consorts that he holds so dear!"
"A curse I lay upon your crown
and cast you from the mountain down!
Forever will you repeat what you hear ..
echoing all the words within false cheer!"
Poor echo arrived in the mortal world
cursed happy and sad poor pretty girl.
She wandered far repeating all speech,
remembering the heavens now out of reach.
She came one day to a sunlit lea,
where stood a lonely Laurel tree,
and laid beneath within it's shade
a man who's beauty poor Echo dismayed.
The man with time became aware
and voiced his thoughts without a care.
"Who stays near-hidden watching Narcissus?"
"Watching Narcissus" she made it sound like kisses.
"Come out, come out that I might see"
"That I might see" as she walked round the tree
"Who are you lady that you brighten my day?"
"Brighten my day" his beauty paled all the fay.
Then turning, "I'm sorry my Lady, I cannot dally"
"Cannot dally?" her mind wouldn't rally.
She had seen all the Gods, all the glory of heaven.
Yet besides this young man it was all as unleaven.
She followed from far over many the days.
Watched a procession of lovers that Narcissus lays
Watched him seeking for something as if in a race,
knowing never would he match his perfection of face.
At last she came to the pool where he sat,
seeing mirrored in the water his prize at last.
She watched him all through the night as slowly he died,
and when at last he lay still, it was then she cried.
She cried from her soul for the longest of time,
no words to express no echo to rhyme.
And at last she faded away to mere voice
And now only heard from a travelers choice.
When you shout in the canyon or over the hill,
remember that echo is the bitterest pill.
When your words return forlorn from the ghost,
then remember the pain of loving the most
